Last night I glued the neck block, and now the bulk is sawed off.
Next I reach for a large chisel to round things over.
And now I bring it to near final size using both the big chisel and a smaller 1/4 chisel. I stop at about 90%, the next step is to make and fit the wedges that will lock the sides in. I do not finish the neck now because all the tinkering with the wedges, and then gluing the top to the neck, might cause bumps in the channel corners that would look absolutely disastrous on the finished guitar – the junction between neck, sides and fretboard has to be absolutely perfect. The final extra 1mm of neck wood is going to be removed right before assembly, or perhaps after the guitar is closed.
