Macassar Ebony

Macassar ebony mainly comes from the Sulawesi island of Indonesia. Unlike African ebony, it is more stable and more musical, and also much more visually attractive for the back and sides of a guitar. Under finish the tan stripping offers a blurred, soft “watercolor” appearance which I find very attractive. Tonally there is still a lot more damping than with a good rosewood piece so I will pair it with a low damping cedar top, which is a better than spruce visual match as well.
