Grain alignment

The heel is made from 3 pieces, consecutive cuts from the same rift-sawn neck blank. The trick is to flip the middle section, allowing for perfect grain continuity. Because of the rift cut, the grain lines form a zigzag pattern creating the illusion the tree grew with sharp twists – in real trees do grow like this sometimes, but of course the grains are wavy not zigzagged. The pattern will be more visible once the heel is polished.
