The headplate should be left to rest for 3 days or so until the glue moisture is out. A 3 layers headplate takes a large amount of glue resulting in a slight crown. If smoothed now, it will develop a dip later. After smoothing, the back of the headstock is planed thin enough and the secondary plate glued.
